DPWH Upgrades Highway Linking Tacloban, Ormoc

The portion of the national road linking the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc will undergo a major improvement this year, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Monday.

The PHP121-million road upgrading will focus on road sections in the towns of Jaro, Carigara, and Capoocan in Leyte. This involves the road slope protection in landslide-prone areas of Capoocan, Leyte, and widening in Carigara and Jaro towns.

DPWH 2nd Leyte engineering district office chief Leo Edward Oppura said the project seeks to increase the load capacity and improve the road condition along the national highway.

“Our call to affected residents by the road widening project (is) to cooperate with the government’s effort. This is intended to improve the road network for better and faster mobility of the motorists considering that the highway is one of the busiest roads in Leyte,” Oppura said in a phone interview.

The road widening project is composed of six infrastructure projects categorized as asset preservation program and preventive maintenance. At least four projects are ongoing while two await modification approval.

These projects are up for completion within the year. (PNA)
